Summer Art Camp
in Shady Hollow
Three weeks of color, mess, and made-by-hand projects for K-5 kids. Taught by former AISD educators who love this work and miss being in the classroom.
A few teachers who didn't want to stop teaching.
We're a small group of former AISD educators. Our positions were cut at the end of the school year, and instead of sitting on it, we decided to do what we already love doing: spending time with kids and making things.
Kristin leads The Painted Hand, a mural and watercolor art business based here in Shady Hollow. The rest of the team are educators she's worked with and trusts. Every one of us has spent years working with kids in school settings.
Kristin Speich
Muralist & watercolor artist. Teacher's aide until June 2026.

What kids will actually make.
Each week is its own thing, so kids can come for one, two, or all three. Every kid leaves each session with something they made, paint on their fingers, and (probably) a story to tell at dinner.
Watercolor Basics
June 9 - 11
Brushes, paper, color mixing, and a few finished pieces each kid takes home. Loose, playful, not perfect on purpose.
Big Color, Big Walls
June 16 - 18
Collaborative mural-style projects on large paper and panels. Each kid contributes to a group piece and works on their own smaller version.
Portraits of the Things You Love
June 23 - 25
Pets, houses, people. Painted the way they feel, not the way they look. Kids leave with a finished portrait of someone or something that matters to them.
Everything you'd want to know.
Pick a week. Or all three.
$185 / week
3 sessions, 9 hours of instruction
$500 / all 3 weeks
Saves $55. Same kid, all three weeks.
Three of us lost our school jobs. We wanted to keep teaching.
We could have looked for other work. We could have waited until fall. Instead, we wanted to keep doing what we love and offer something to the neighborhood that just lost us.
A summer art program is the simplest version of that. We get to teach, kids get a real creative outlet, parents get a few afternoons back, and the community gets something good out of a hard situation.
If you want to help beyond signing up a kid, we have a fundraiser running to cover startup costs and fund scholarship spots for families who can't afford the class fee. You can also donate supplies directly through our Amazon wish list.
The stuff parents actually ask.
?What if my kid has never done art before?
That's the whole point. Most of our projects assume no prior experience. We meet kids where they are.
?What if my kid has done a lot of art?
We'll push them. The projects are flexible enough that a beginner and a kid with experience can sit at the same table and both leave with something they're proud of.
?What if my kid is shy?
We've all worked with shy kids. The small group size (4 per teacher) means we can give every kid the attention they need to feel comfortable. Day 1 is mostly settling in.
?Allergies or accommodations?
Tell us at registration and we'll work with you. We use standard art supplies (washable tempera, watercolor, paper). Let us know about any sensitivities.
?What's your refund policy?
Full refund up to 14 days before a week starts. 50% refund within 14 days. No refunds once a week has begun, but we can transfer your spot to another family.
?What if a week doesn't fill?
We need a minimum of 6 kids per week to run. If a week is canceled, we'll refund you in full and let you know at least one week in advance.
?Can siblings sign up together?
Yes. No sibling discount, but siblings can attend the same week and we'll place them in age-appropriate groups.
?Are you insured?
Yes. We carry general liability insurance for the program. All families sign a standard release form at registration.
12 spots a week. First come, first paint.
Fill out the form and we'll be in touch within 24 hours with next steps, payment details, and the address.
